Gibbs Sandtech Limited
The Gibbs family have been in the woodworking industry, in one way or another, for around 100 years. During the roaring ’20s, Herbert E. Gibbs Furniture founded a furniture factory in London. The firm specialised in furniture for both domestic and commercial use. In it’s heyday, Gibbs Furniture employed over 300 people.
The post war years saw an explosion of demand for fashionable and high quality furniture. To keep up with this demand, Gibbs Furniture designed and built their own drying racks and spray tables to speed up production. The initial designs were basic, but proved to be more successful than expected, massively increasing productivity and driving down costs.

Gibbs Finishing Systems
The initial prototypes were so successful that Gibbs Furniture established a new company in the early 1960s, Gibbs Finishing Systems. Its sole purpose was selling the spray tables and drying racks used in the furniture factory. Guided by their experience in furniture making, Gibbs began designing machinery for the woodworking industry.

Since the late 60s, our product range has snowballed to encompasses sanding machinery, radio frequency gluing, coating technology, as well as bespoke product transport and processing lines for a variety of different industries.
From manufacturing flooring to coffins; pencils to cricket bats, the Gibbs name has been attached to a bewildering array of woodworking and finishing solutions.
Looking to the Future
Recently, we redesigned our best selling Cup Brush sander from the ground up to take advantage of modular construction techniques and modern technologies such as laser cutting and 3D printing.
We continue to innovate as part of our commitment to bringing new and exciting technology to our customers around the world.
Sadly, the furniture manufacturing business didn’t survive, but the Gibbs name continues to stand by the ideals of providing the highest quality products at the best price possible set by Herbert E. Gibbs 100 years ago.
